Cheryl (better known as Cheryl Cole formerly known as Cheryl Tweedy) isn’t perfect but no proper popstar should be. There’s a flaw that the public knows about underneath the shiny veneer and that’s exactly how our Chezza has been presented. From the moment she got into Girls Aloud, she was snatching both positive and atrociously negative headlines. Home girl just dropped the music video to her anticipated new single, “Call My Name,” and I’m sure she’ll be grabbing a ton more headlines especially considering this is the first new single after the entire The X-Factor debacle.
“Call My Name” took a few listens before it began growing on me but that breakdown after the intro/chorus is undeniably hot. As soon as the video, directed by Anthony Mandler, started playing, a wide grin spread across my face because the video was obviously going to be just as hot.
The choreography? The apparent theft of an abandoned car on a bridge? The booty shorts? The Top Model posing in the tunnel?! My eyes can’t take it!
Wouldn’t this be a perfect song/video for her to try and enter the US market with? It’s a catchy track and she’s started popping up more and more on American blogs so why not take the jump? My advice is that she doesn’t do a bunch of “I’m trying to crack America” type of interviews because those types of artists always end up in rehab…in Leeds.
Just take the song and promote the heck out of it with as many performances as you can, Cheryl! Do one acoustic performance where you actually sing live but the rest? Lip-synch your way into the America public’s hearts.
And if rumors are true of a collaboration with Rihanna for her upcoming third album, A Million Lights, I pray it gets released as a single. I don’t even need to explain why.
