Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2013

We’re here to discuss the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2013 collection but I’d like to start with a question: why are so many male models so damn awkward on runways? Is it so hard to turn on the catwalk smoothly? Is that so far-fetched? Am I reaching for the stars? If Joan Smalls and Karlie Kloss can do it in ridiculous pin-thin high heels, you can do it in those awkward looking shoes with no height to them whatsoever.

And what’s with the children? Are you trying to tell us something? Are you about to put more money into your kids line? Are you killing your kids line like you did to D&G? Granted, some of them walked better than the grown-ups but it was still somewhat of a disaster. The spot of youth was misguided and did nothing beneficaiary for this collection’s show which almost felt like a parody that would have been in an episode of Ugly Betty.

The collection itself wasn’t exactly super fly either but if there is one good thing that came out of this debacle, it’s this guy:

Look 49! Whoever he is, he needs to be in the Spring/Summer 2013 ad campaign. Better yet, just make him into the next David Gandy. Use him until you can use him no more. Trust me on this one! While you chew on that, let me share what else I enjoyed about this collection.

I really have come to love wearing trousers just as much, if not more, than denim and the prints Domenico and Stefano sent out where pretty rad. Stripes dominated the entire collection but I fell hard for the mapped-out trouser. I could do without its length so since I’m tight like frog’s ass with Dom(enico) and Stef(ano), I’d most likely convince them to alter the length. Totally wouldn’t be an issue. Again: tight like frog’s ass.

Shockingly enough, I was taken aback by the shorts! I’m not an abbreviated trousers fan but I’ve been leaning towards them a bit more this year so maybe come Spring/Summer 2013, I’ll actually be rocking a pair here or there? What I loved most was the variety that was shown. From the striped pair to the super short printed pair down the line to the more dressy pairs, the shorts were rock stars. Despite my growing appreciation for color, I was still drawn to the neutrals and blacks.

Overall, I’d give the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2013 collection 2.5 out of 5 stars. Was it absolutely horrendous? Not by a long shot. I just keep wishing for some jolt of creativity, some flash of sexiness. Yes, shirtless men with ripped bodies can be seen as sexy but clothes can conjure up the same type of emotions in people. Come on, Dom and Stef…get on it.
